iTune-ifying The New Jazz Thing - Can iTunes Keep Up? Can we help iTunes keep up with The New Jazz Thing? Let's see how much of what I played on the Live show last week is available at the iTunes Music Store. The New Jazz Thing Playlist. Currently Mac users only, but Apple has it's eyes on Windows folks too. Tonight's goal is to use the lessons of the trailblazers to create a most killer, iTunes integrated, playlist of the Latest Jazz Releases, New Artist Interviews, And the latest News from Jazz, Music, Arts, Technology, World Events, Earth Shattering Personal Upheavals, and Basic Fun Things. If you're an iTunes user, click the iTune link and see what happens. I'll be checking it out too... We start with a handcoded link... Alexandra, Regina Carter, Paganini (iTunes) A tune I played on the Live show last Thursday. And a album that popped up nicely when I checked out the iTunes - Jazz - New Releases (link?) section to see what New they had to offer. Spotty was my first impression, but I've yet to dive in. There will be time for that. Let's check that link over on the G4 and whatever fine Mac you are using iTunes on. Bye...Oh...Nice! [Take #2...] That worked nicely. I immediately want some way to have the preview automatically start when (if) I get right to the tune, but it's just a double-click to hear it. From the search results, And a click to the Artist and Album. Pretty cool. Now to get an iTune link for each tune we played on the show last week, using our most recent TNJT Live Playlist (v3) in Excel format. Here goes...
[Take 3...] Obvious character problems introduced but that link works...for Regina Carter. But I had to try about 6 with no matches at all, and then give up and try the Regina Carter link. Which didn't even work the first time because the title from the disc (and the one I wrote / typed on the log), "excerpts from Alexandra", is not the same as the tune title in iTunes, "Alexandra". The iTunes search didn't find it until I shortened the tune title to "Alexandra". Which made me see the benefit in providing links to the Album and Artist also, in case iTunes gets really picky with the Tune Title and doesn't come back from the search with any results. Then they still have the Album and Artist links to iTunes (those abbreviated iT thingys) to choose from. And so, the last try of the evening (boy I wish I had life left to put some pictures up tonight)...
With Artist, at least, I should pull something up for most of the big name artists. BUT I WANT ALL OF THE DISCS THAT I PLAY TO BE AVAILABLE IN ITUNES. AND I WANT MY COMMENTS, READINGS, AND INTERVIEWS TO BE AVAILABLE IN ITUNES. SO...HOW DOES ONE GO ABOUT SELLING YOUR TUNES IN THE ITUNES STORE which resulted in not finding anything. Other thoughts... With an affiliate program, what kind of deal do you think that Jazz 88 could get to publish their playlist this way? Could we actually raise money for the station from listeners who dug the tunes we played and had a way to Buy That Tune right from our the playlist at http://KSDS-FM.org?! Let's start small. Let's start New.
Here's another place where they are talking of similar things. And I've heard talk of shared playlists...actually streaming from my desktop...for up to 5 friends at a time...um. Next, I go in another direction. |
