Dave King of The Bad Plus From a Seattle Tavern Kitchen - MP3 Audio From The New Jazz Thing

Dave King, drummer for The Bad Plus, joined The Live show via phone from the kitchen of some Tavern in Seattle on May 22, 2003 around 7:35 pm PT. Was on a brief west coast swing, continuing the run of "These Are The Vistas", an album being hailed as one of the best of 2003. We talked about the band's covers of non-traditional tunes (Nirvana, Blondie, Black Sabbath) and the press they get from this, which doesn't bother them but they want folks to know they are writing and playing their own stuff for the most part. We also talked about the touring road, comparisons to Medesky, Martin, and Wood (mostly in attitude), and how the Internet has impacted their current pursuits (getting some good thought's from admitted non-Tech-head Dave).

The interview is available for your digital listening pleasure...you can listen to it either via MP3 streaming or MP3 download. If you're going to listen to it on your Inet connected computer, try out the Low FI MP3 Stream. The quality is good and using it allows more folks to listen to the interviews with the available bandwidth. But please, if you so desire, use the Hi Fi MP3 stream for best streaming quality. If you're going mobile, then take the MP3 Downloads with you to the far edges of your digital world!

  • Lizz Wright Interview On The New Jazz Thing, May, 22, 2003 - MP3 Audio Online

Lizz Wright phoned into the Live show this past Thursday evening, May 22, 2003 around 6:20 pm in San Diego, 9:20 where Lizz was in New York City. We chatted about the buzz of activity surrounding her right now as her new disc "Salt" takes off and she get's ready to hit the road, including a stop at the Playboy Jazz Festival, Saturday, June 14, 2003. Lizz talked about her religious upbring and how she went through some times of finding herself which led to her pursuing Jazz as a means of expression. As for the future, Lizz isn't too concerned with that, she's digging what's happening right now. Lizz also talks about a couple of tunes from the disc, "Blue Rose", which came from a poem she had written, and "Soon As I Get Home", a tune she was very familiar with from her younger days (ok, she is only 23) absorbing and goofing on "The Wiz" with her friends.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in transcribing the interview (at least Lizz's part) for me, that would be excellent. You can even post the words on your site and I'll just grab them. I'm trying to do some other things with the interviews and the transcript will be helpful. I'll be doing it myself in the next couple of days if I don't get any takers...email or Comment[] below if you think you can help.

On with the interview...It's in two parts and you can listen to it either via MP3 streaming or MP3 download.
