Medeski, Martin, and Wood Rock Humphreys, San Diego, and Jazz 88 "Link to Burt Teretsky", said Mr. Mole.
![]() VO, Chris Wood, Billy Martin, John Medeski, Miff Mole, Claudia Russell (genuflecting) Click for the visual details Answering my astonishment of the work, of the extensive extended techniques of The Bassist Wood (Chris), in Medeski (The John), Martin (The Billy), and Wood...or MMW to us rockin' Jazz 88 crew tonight. Yo Miff, was that link the bomb, backing up your Jazz insight, with concurrence from Todd Barton,
" The bassist is Bert Turetzky, the godfather of extended techniques for the contrabass! " Many stories tonight, from Miff's piloting of the van from City Lot #7, down Harbor, to self-parking bliss at Humphrey's, John Scofield just under way and the visions of the amazing albino clippy (have you ever seen one of those?!> in our heads. Avoiding the knee-in-chin seating of the most swayin' of venues tonight, joining Miff and his date, the other Jeff, in the smoking hall. While Scofield somewhat labored unrecognized but oh so funky (mixin' in spoken word and real-time crowd noise sample loops). And roaming to capture sound and video and picture. The pictures, linked to from the pictures above, are for the most part impressionistic (or non-flash-challenged), don't you agree? Idea: Wouldn't it be cool if MMW / Scofield taped the show, shared it with us this Thursday, while critiqueing and answering questions about it. Wouldn't it be cool for all of us who saw the show to let the boys know what we thought...and all the other folks who should be seeing them as the band hits LA tomorrow and onward on tour? I ran down Scofield and then the band. The pictures are coming.
If you saw the show and have something to tell others about it, use the Comment [] below or send me a link to your own home on the INet, like this one... |
