J Otis Mic Side and Rockin' Me, You, and Tonights Session of TNJT Live on Jazz 88

JOtisMicSide.jpgJ Otis Williams, Mic Side at Jazz 88 is totally cooking this morning as evidenced by this little nugget...

"I want you to keep on grinnin', 'cause J Otis is spinnin'. on Jazz 88!"

J Otis rocks the Thursday Jazz 88 Lineup. Just like he rocked, with Ida and the crew, the Jazz 88 Open House last month (click the crew pic to see the whole photo album)...

Thanks to J Otis and Joe for trying to track down Steve Lacy's Reflections...can't believe it's not in the library. I was trying to send out post-mortem shouts for Lacy, who passed away this past week. Here's the NY Times Obit for Steve Lacy, I loved that album because Lacy loved Monk. Where I was introduced to pianist Mal Waldron. And then I went in the late 80's to see Lacy and Waldron in duo perfomance in Carlsbad, I believe, with my Jazz mentor Jeff H. And that show was a turning point in what Jazz could be for me, no rhythm section needed, those two on stage alone just wailed. And cried. And spoke. To us and each other. Trancendant, I believe would describe the event for me. So, Steve is huge! Long live Steve Lacy!! Oh, and I have the "Reflections" disc in my collection (and it's available online at iTunes Music Store..right on!)...so you know, Jazz Lover, it's going to be featured on the show tonight.

Speaking of Jazz 88 on Thursday, on tonight's session of The New Jazz Thing features lots of new music, with interviews tonight with Hugh Masekela, Kevin Eubanks, and Daniel Jackson...wow!! What a night of learning about someThing New!!

Oh, and for the crack http://Jazz88Online.org staff, the pull down menus in the navigation (like Schedules), doesn't seem to work in the Safari web browser (running on Mac OS X). A minor bump in what is shaping up as a new web home for Real Jazz Radio. We'll have to address where we put the TNJT Live on Jazz 88 weblog, since http://KSDS-FM.org/NewJazzThing is no longer pointing to where we've been publishing. Another 'tiny blip on the radar screen" (thanks Lorraine Feather)!
