Jackie Allen on The New Jazz Thing With Vince Outlaw, Thursday, July 1, 2004
Jackie Allen, whose new disc "Love Is Blue" I am thoroughly digging, will be on the Live show, Thursday, July 1, 2004, approximately 7:20 pm PT (Hour 2 of The New, 6-9 pm PT) on Jazz 88, KSDS San Diego, 88.3 FM worldwide webcast http://Jazz88Online.org. Jackie is just getting the "Love Is Blue 2004 Tour" underway, with stops in L.A. 7/1 and at San Diego's Humphrey's By The Bay on Saturday, 7/3.

[Update...] MP3 of Jackie Allen on The New Jazz Thing, Thursday, July 1, 2004 (19 MB)

I'm digging "Love Is Blue" for it's many different directions. A rocky, Steely Dan-ish groove to "The Performer" and "Turn". The spooky floating atmospheric opener, "Low", with it's delicately enunciated Seussian rhythmical lyrics,

"It's a lazy afternoon.
And the beetle bugs are zoomin,
the tuplip trees are bloomin,
and there's not another human
in view, but us two.
Exquisite that tune is. The spirit of Cassandra Wilson's work seems to touch this. But there's also lighter, more straight ahead stuff too. What holds it together is Jackie. Clear voice, expressive performance...pretty damn cool.

Come back her to links to the interview audio, or better yet, tune in live to Jazz 88 and http://Jazz88Online.org!
