Jazz Ballad CDs To Blog Knowledgably By
Bill Ives over at Portals and KM has blogged some of his favorite Jazz ballad CDs to write and think by, including Coltrane's "Ballads" (re-intepreted vocally by Karrin Allyson a couple years back) and Miles' "Kind of Blue",
"These are all CDs I put on to start the day, end the day, or when I need to focus my writing. They are all good enough that I can just hit the replay button when I am in the middle of something. Each one is simply instrumental, which helps with the concentration."

Great jazz-blog post Bill! I'd have to stick Duke Ellington's "Ellington Indigos" into a list of my favorites in this "entire CD of ballads" category and while we are still thinking of Basie the day after his 100th Bday, a favorite from that band is Neal Hefti's "Girl Talk". I wonder if there is a Billy Strayhorn ballad disc that has "Lush Life" on it, because it's another one of my favorite ballad singles (but we've have to find something with the lyrics, because I they, to me, are so intertwined with that gorgeous tune).

And it looks like Bill and I are into some of the things as we are both interested in how blogging, knowledge capture / sharing / usage, and how that's all presented through portals. I'm hopefully going to hook into his feed (and I'm interested to read any thoughts on RSS feeds through Feedburner).

UPDATE! Looks like Bill posted his Ballads - Part Two this morning. Unfortunately, I'm not able to pick up his RSS (or Atom) feed through his Subscribe link.

Donovan Does Jazz?
From the NY Post review of Donovan's (Mellow-Yellow) new disc, "Beat Cafi"...
"Listen for the blues-to-folk arrangement on "The Cuckoo" and the unexpected "Question," a jazz/hip-hop hybrid.
OK, so where do I get a listen to that for a possibly quirky show inclusion?
