Some pre-interview background... Jo Ann has a new disc out called "Range of Motion" that you may have heard on the show the past few weeks or saw the post on TNJT - The Tunes for 6/2/2005, which I believe Jo Ann did, because she emailed us with a cool story in answer to my blogged-bit about the "cryptic tune name" I played, "Part 4, Part 2". Her story, "I saw that you were wondering about the name of "Part 4, Part 2." Mitch Paliga, the saxophonist on the album, is an outstanding writer. He and I play alot of each other's new stuff, help fine tune the compositions, etc. I wrote this tune and thought it was pretty darn snappy. Not too long after, I realized the melody is really stealing from one of his compositions we had been playing frequently, the 4th movement in a 5-part suite, then named only "Part 4." So my tune is "Part 4, Part 2."" Cool 'side-effects of extended collaboration' story! It's quite nice that she found us on the web and was able to provide that little tidbit...maybe we'll find out more! Anyway...I asked, she made contact, and voila, we've got someone with a New Jazz Thing to talk about on the show! Looking forward to it!! A couple more links of interest: 5:52:26 PM |
