Greg Reinacker's Weblog - Calendar extension for NewsGator
Greg Reinacker's Weblog - Calendar extension for NewsGator: "Wow, I just get done talking about some cool extensions for NewsGator 2.0, and another one pops up.
John Bristowe and Jeff Julian have built an ESF extension for NewsGator. With this extension installed, if a feed publishes information about an event in a certain way, a new item will get added to Outlook's calendar with the event details."

Pushing the integration envelope
Pushing the integration envelope:

An interesting look at how the Deparment of Homeland Security (DHS) is tackling their intergration challenge through Enterprise Architecture planning...

"Given the multitude of legacy systems, DHS will focus on the 'to-be' architecture rather than the 'as-is' situation, said Jeff Flading, vice president for homeland security IT systems at Anteon Corp. He said DHS officials are much more concerned with 'the fundamental processes they need for finance and procurement.'

With that in mind, officials from DHS and BearingPoint have begun to document requirements, starting with general external mandates such as the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program. In the meantime, specific, mission-unique requirements are being documented through a series of facilitated sessions with various DHS representatives, Moody said.

'Representatives from different components will be brought together to identify those requirements,' he said. Facilitated sessions, launched in January, cover five areas — general ledger/accounts payable/accounts receivable, budget, payroll/travel, asset management and procurement. Moody said those categories may be adjusted."

LAO 2003-04 Budget Analysis: General Government, Information Technology Governance

This is an interesting quick couple of pages on how the state of California is starting to tackle IT Governance. A lot of the 'many questions need to be answered' section really pertain to any organization starting to put together (or mend) IT governance activities / processes.

TechRepublic: Make IT governance an integral part of the enterprise
TechRepublic: Make IT governance an integral part of the enterprise:
"The goals and objectives of the company must be clearly articulated, and IT must share that vision. The expectations of the IT department should be clearly communicated to include IT?s effect on profitability, market share, and service quality. Quantifiable goals must be set and responsibilities clearly defined. All business units must take ownership for accomplishing business goals, and IT must share in that responsibility. IT should assist other business units in determining what business systems are required to accomplish their goals and should specify how technology will be used to meet those objectives. Educate all team members in a business unit?s operations. Without appropriate knowledge, IT will not make appropriate recommendations."
