Preppin' For The Benny Green Jazz Live Interview

Doing some prep for the Jazz Live interview with Benny Green quickly racing toward me. A quick perusal of Benny's Bio provides a few areas for inquisition...but first, a shot of Benny...

Benny Green at Home (Page)

Does he have any lessons learned from his early education that he tries to pass on to youngsters just getting started?

What would he say are characteristics of his sound?

Does he think that his style fits in with any particular lineage or branch of the Jazz Piano tree?

Regarding his stint with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, does he think that band changed any upon his entry (and/or exit) from the band?

He succeeded Gene Harris to the piano of the Ray Brown Trio where he stayed from 93 to 97. Was Gene Harris someone he knew about before Benny moved into the piano seat with Ray? What, to you, was special about your relationship with Ray Brown?

Other areas of exploration...

Where does his itinerary take him?

Explore his relationship with Russell Malone and their duo work.

He seems to work small, with lots of solo, duo, and trio work. Is this by choice?

The band he's playing with tonight at Jazz Live.

As a student of Jazz history, does he think about this time in Jazz and how it might be looked back on? Are there particular movements or themes in Jazz and Music, both artistically and from business standpoint, that are particularly important and may be for awhile?
