The San Diego City College World Cultures Program is sponsoring tonight's Jazz Live with the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra, making the event FREE to all and hopefully ensuring we'll have a full and enthusiastic audience. There's lot's of information on their website, including their mandate...
"...to celebrate the ethnic and cultural diversity at City College and to enhance the curriculum and campus life, the World Cultures Program exposes students, faculty, staff and the community to a broad array of global cultural diversity found in people, groups, beliefs, traditions, and customs, plus the best in music, drama, literature, lecturers, and art. "
Sounds like a great program and we'll hopefully have time to plug them before, during, and after the show.
Just want to remind everyone that tonight's Jazz Live with the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra is FREE TO EVERYONE!! The San Diego City College World Cultures Program is sponsoring tonight's show and waiving the nomimal (usually $10) fee charged to non-members of Jazz 88.

Note: Direct from the pages of The New Jazz Thing...
Bill Caballero surprised us last Thursday, November 4, 2004, during Hour 2 of New, by dropping in to record the Jazz Live Intermission interview that we play exactly when the name says, in this case during the next Jazz Live, Tuesday, November 9, 2004. I'm not sure how much of this will be used (or maybe supplemented with another pre-show interview), but after a little New Houston Person and "Love Walked In", we talked about the preferred pronunciation of Bi-National Mambo Orchestra, the impact of member-supported Jazz 88 to him and San Diego, the history of the Orquestra and it's great home town written compositions and arrangement, the migrating bi-nationality Thing, and Bill's channeling of Jack Costanza (whose music takes us out).

Here's a pic of Bill and I, snapped outside the studio, post-interview (as opposed to this mid-interview pic snapped / posted live...jazz live, that is),

This group is a 20-piece band dedicated to performing and promoting Latin big band music from the 1950's to the present. The band's dazzling performances celebrate a wide range of musical styles including mambo, bolero, cha cha cha, salsa, and other forms of Latin Jazz. Led by versatile trumpeter Bill Caballero, Orquesta Bi-Nacional de Mambo features some of the best cross-cultural musicians from the San Diego-Tijuana border region. The band's sizzling live shows have gained them a devoted following and reputation for passion and authenticity. Since its inception in 2000, the band has performed for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the San Diego Latino Film Festival, the San Diego Museum of Art, the California Center for the Performing Arts in Escondido, the Adams Avenue Street Fair, the Centro Cultural de Tijuana, Tijuana's Casa de la Cultura, Dizzy's, and the KSDS Jazz Live radio program.
