Chuchito Valdes, with Laksar Reese translating, chats with Vince Outlaw before Jazz Live, Tuesday, October 10, 2006. He talked about his band-mates for Jazz Live, his famous family, including his Mom (the center of the family), his bands in Cuba, including Irakere, the importance of composing to him, and what's up for his future.
Note 1: I messed up the intro titles to that Google video displays a minor title in the presentation...the video is still all there. I guess they must show a frame that's about 8 seconds into the video as the presentation image. Something else to work on! (UPDATE: Fixed!)
Note 2: I'm playing around with Google Video and am not real happy with the fidelity of the video...probably I didn't upload a high-enough quality video. Anyway, I will take another shot at this and post an update if that looks better. (UPDATE: Fixed! At least I think it looks much better in the small version embedded in this page AND if you click this link or the little Google Video logo in the bottom of the embedded player, you can see a much bigger version with good quality video. Cool!)
Wow...what a show tonight...here are some highlights...
What a great night!! And we've got the legendary Cedar Walton for the next show....who is he playing with? I've got to start writing out my questions now!!

For Tuesday's performance, Valdés, now based in Cancún, Mexico, will be joined by exceptional Cuban-born, Los Angeles-based rhythm section tandem of bassist Jorge “El Saguaâ€ Pérez, who has played widely with the Buena Vista Social Club, and trap drummer Raúl Piñeda, best known for his work in Síntesis, Cuba's first progressive rock band and with Chucho Valdés.
And word it that it's actually going to be a quartet, with a saxophonist who also serves as interpreter (important to us conducting interviews and such!).
